How effective is your planning process? Do you have a consistent way to value diverse IT investments and make trade-off decisions across your organization?
Powerful, integrated system for data-driven decisions
The Copperleaf® Decision Analytics Solution streamlines the process of developing, approving, and managing investments through their full lifecycle. It provides a centralized, enterprise-wide platform to capture all candidate investments, allowing them to be scoped, costed, valued, and organized into portfolios. Our software helps IT professionals:
- Assess the benefits of all investments consistently to make trade-off decisions with confidence
- Optimize investment portfolios to maximize value and drive strategic outcomes, while respecting multiple operating constraints
- Identify which investments to defer when there are funding or cash flow constraints
- Create what-if scenarios to compare and contrast the value, timing, risks, and costs of different investment strategies—to build a robust, defensible plan
Using the Copperleaf Value Framework to value IT investments
IT departments have very similar challenges to their asset management counterparts. They need to manage a pipeline of candidate projects, and allocate their limited funds and resources to get the best results. The Copperleaf Value Framework can be configured to measure the key things that deliver benefit to the organization so that trade-offs can be made with confidence. Some common value measures to assess the benefits of IT investments include cost, financial benefits, IT capacity risk, security risk, license risk, innovation premium, business continuity risk, etc.
Enterprise IT software: build vs. buy decisions
In today’s world of enterprise IT software, there are a number of key arguments for selecting packaged or Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions, as compared to having an internal group build a solution for your organization. Download this white paper to learn about the following topics:
- Build versus buy: key factors to consider
- Advantages of using a COTS solution
- Benefits of choosing the Copperleaf Decision Analytics Solution
SaaS vs. on-premise: which implementation model is best?
When evaluating enterprise software applications, there are two key questions to consider:
- Which licensing model is best suited to your organization – Software as a Service (SaaS) or a perpetual license?
- Where should you run the application – in your own data centers or hosted in the cloud?
Each licensing model and hosting option presents its own unique advantages—and there’s no no one-size-fits-all solution. It comes down to understanding the pros and cons of the various options to decide what makes the most sense for your organization.

A streamlined approach to asset risk modeling
VISUE provides Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) and IT Security Services to 13 electricity distribution system operators (DSOs) in Denmark. These operators do not have the capacity or funding to implement an Asset Investment Planning and Management (AIPM) solution in each DSO. Find out how they joined forces with Copperleaf to investigate asset management methodologies and develop a value-based approach to plan investments and manage risk in a streamlined and optimized way.
Making the highest-value asset investment decisions
Network Rail selected the Copperleaf Decision Analytics Solution to help manage Britain’s railway infrastructure, which includes 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts, and thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. The Copperleaf solution provides an enterprise-wide platform for strategic asset modeling and investment planning. It is being used to forecast work volumes, outputs, and expenditure across Network Rail’s entire asset base.
The Copperleaf solution has allowed National Grid to transform and modernize existing business capabilities as well as embed new functions in the planning and optimization space.
Previously our asset management plans were siloed and planning was all done in Excel. This approach made it difficult to assess different types of constraints and scenarios, and did not support an optimized portfolio of investments. Now this can all be done in the Copperleaf system, which allows for better collaboration, visibility, and more objective decisions.
The initial phase focused on delivering immediate value by getting the Copperleaf solution up and running quickly to enhance our Asset Investment Planning (AIP) processes. The second phase involves analyzing integration requirements with other enterprise applications, such as SAP.
One of our key priorities as an organization is to implement systems that support our digital transformation journey.
Copperleaf will help us manage our assets and make the best possible investment decisions—that means more accurate REPEX forecasts, and a more effective and efficient Program of Work for our customers.
I think the distribution system operators realized that IT support of asset management is only a small part of the picture. Streamlining processes and preparing the organization for a new way of investment decision making and project management is the more important part of this journey.
