Employee Feature: Q&A with Brad Hocking, Customer Experience Team Lead, Australia and New Zealand

Meet Brad Hocking, a Customer Experience Team Lead at Copperleaf®. In this article, he shares how his professional journey led him to the company, what types of clients he’s been working with, and the things he’s looking forward to in the future.

Can you share what your role is at Copperleaf?

“I’m the Customer Experience (CX) Team Lead for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). Our team is a capable and enthusiastic group of consultants who provide extraordinary experiences for our clients in the ANZ region.”

What types of clients have you been working with recently?

“Since starting at Copperleaf, I’ve worked with clients across the water, aviation, and electrical transmission and distribution sectors. I have also been involved in discussions with organisations in electrical generation, transportation, telecommunications, and government.”

That’s quite a diverse range of industries. Are you seeing any key themes or trends?

“These industries all have different strategies, priorities, and acronyms, but they’re consistent in their need for decision analytics. The ability to make better investment decisions and optimise spending is universal. Another trend across all industries is the focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). Many organisations are struggling with a lack of defined methodology to embed ESG strategies in their decision making.”

I’m attracted to organisations that make a positive difference in the world and have a good time doing it.

Can you tell us about your professional background and what led you to Copperleaf?

“I’ve worked as an engineer and consultant for over 10 years across a range of industries, including oil and gas, rail, roads and highways, defence, finance, and the charity sector. I’m attracted to organisations that make a positive difference in the world and have a good time doing it. I had been following Copperleaf for many years, and finally made the decision to apply after meeting the team at AMPEAK 2021, the asset management conference in Australia.”

How would you describe the company culture in five words?

“Focus on positive client outcomes.”

What’s the best thing you’ve learned on the job?

“As CX consultants, we bring expertise in decision analytics and how our solutions can best be implemented to drive the best results for our clients. I’ve learned that when we combine our capabilities with our client’s industry expertise, we can deploy strategies that enable successful outcomes and improve their investment decision optimisation capabilities.”

What are you looking forward to in the next year?

“In Australia, we have many exciting projects on the horizon involving new industry verticals, clients, and new projects with existing clients. I’m also extremely excited about the positive impact we can have on society by enabling organisations to make better ESG decisions.”

Outside of Copperleaf, what else keeps you busy?

“I’m kept very busy playing with my four kids! I’m also the president of the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) in South Australia where I oversee a team of 100 staff and 2500 volunteers who aim to make life better for the most disadvantaged in our community.”
