CASE STUDY
Landsvirkjun is Iceland’s largest producer of electricity, and one of the 10 largest renewable energy companies in Europe. Iceland generates 99% of its electricity from renewable energy resources and Landsvirkjun generates two thirds of this electricity. The company has an installed capacity of 1,987 MW operating 14 hydropower stations, 2 geothermal power stations and 2 wind turbines across the country.
With its asset base both growing and aging, Landsvirkjun was outgrowing its existing asset management systems and needed a more robust approach to investment decision making and long-term planning. In 2012, the company engaged Copperleaf™ to help them evaluate the company’s current asset investment planning processes, and map out where they wanted to go in the future. After analysing the outcomes of those discussions, Landsvirkjun decided on a phased implementation of C55™ which has brought significant benefits to the company including:
- Better, faster decisions
- Process efficiencies
- Improved visibility and management of risk
- Employee engagement and satisfaction
