Location

INVITATION ONLY

From Rate Case Defense to Enterprise Capital Strategy

Executive Networking Lunch & Roundtable

Before the Western Energy Institute Annual Meeting begins, join a select group of utility executives for a private lunch and candid peer discussion on how utilities make, align, and defend capital decisions across the enterprise.

Capital demands are accelerating across generation, transmission, distribution, gas, and shared services. At the same time, regulators and stakeholders expect decisions to be faster, more transparent, and more defensible. This invitation-only conversation will explore how utility leaders are moving beyond project-by-project justification toward a more integrated enterprise capital strategy.

The session is designed as a working executive dialogue, not a presentation or product demonstration.

The Conversation

  • Moving from rate case defense to enterprise capital strategy
  • Making and aligning investment decisions across operating companies and across generation, transmission, distribution, and gas
  • Balancing affordability, reliability, resilience, growth, and regulatory expectations
  • Creating executive governance for enterprise-wide capital allocation
  • Building decision processes that can withstand regulatory and stakeholder scrutiny
  • Accelerating investment decisions without sacrificing rigor or transparency

Conversation Leaders

John Di Stasio
President, Large Public Power Council | Former CEO, SMUD
John will anchor the conversation as an industry peer, drawing on decades of utility executive leadership and experience engaging regulators, policymakers, Congress, and FERC.

Tim Swanson
Executive Consultant, IFS | Former Director, FortisBC
Tim will support the discussion with the perspective of a former utility executive. He brings 40 years of industry experience, including 25 years in senior technology, infrastructure security, corporate security, and business continuity leadership at FortisBC.

A Curated Executive Room

Attendance is limited to approximately 10 to 14 senior utility executives responsible for enterprise capital investment, finance, operations, engineering, infrastructure, regulatory strategy, and corporate planning. The small format is intended to support candid discussion, practical exchange, and meaningful peer connection.
