Tackling the Global Step Challenge - Health & Wellness at CopperleafBy Copperleaf
Each year, for 100 days, tens of thousands of teams from organizations around the world compete in the Virgin Pulse Global Step Challenge to improve both their physical and psychological health. Teams track their daily activity, competing to earn the highest number of steps while they take a virtual journey around the globe.
This summer, 112 Copperleafers forming a total of 16 teams, tackled the Global Challenge. At the start of the 100 days, individuals measured their baseline health status in four categories: physical activity, nutrition, balance, and sleep.
During the challenge, team members worked hard to improve their daily step count: top activities included working out in the gym, playing basketball, cycling, and yoga. Some teams organized regular team walks, and one competitor even started taking tap dance classes! We had an awesome time encouraging our teammates and challenging each other to be more active.
In the beginning, only 9% of us reached the goal of 10,000 steps a day. By the end, 82% of us were regularly reaching over 10,000 steps! Our final daily average was 14,725 steps, beating out the global benchmark average. As a company, we walked over 100,700 kilometers (the equivalent of 2.5 times around the world!), with our winning team “Scrambled Legs” walking a total of 8,664 km.
