CIGRE Focuses on Asset ManagementBy Boudewijn Neijens
The International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) recently hosted a symposium at beautiful Trinity College in Dublin focused on electrical transmission and distribution challenges, in particular the numerous effects of the changing mix of resources, and new market regulation and policies.
This was the perfect venue for CIGRE’s international workgroup on ISO 55000 Guidelines for Utilities to meet in person and review the first draft of the material produced by over 20 experts from around the world – including a comprehensive survey of utilities’ intentions with regards to the adoption of ISO 55000. The final version of the much awaited Guidelines should be available to CIGRE members by end of 2017.
CIGRE has also decided to launch a new workgroup to study valuation as a comprehensive approach to asset management decision-making, a concept near and dear to all of us at Copperleaf. Victoria Wills of our UK team will join other world experts to debate this topic and produce guidelines for the utility sector with a target publication date of 2019.
